Dear Hanna,

I recently got engaged and want to start looking for my dress. Are there things I should know before I start my search to make my experience successful?

Thank you.

Dear Shopping for Success,

Congratulations on your recent engagement!  Before you start your bridal gown shopping, here are a few things to do.

1. Figure out your wedding date-- When you set your date, keep in mind that bridal gowns take 20 weeks to order, so allow yourself at least 6 months to plan your wedding. Also, having a date will help the Bridal Specialists you work with be able to give you an exact order deadline.

2. Know your price range-- Be honest with yourself and the bridal specialists you work with. Determine your budget, and only try on the dresses that you can afford.

3. Do research-- Visit the websites of the local bridal boutiques to find out which designers each carries. Visit the designer websites and make notes of which styles you like. Keeping in mind that what you like looking at in a picture, may not be the right style for your body.

4. Call and make an appointment to try on dresses---Most bridal boutiques prefer that an appointment is made ahead to try on gowns. Walk-in's can be appected if there are not already appointments in place. (similar to a doctors office). Make sure you let the boutique know what you are looking for and the price range you want to stay in.

Now that you are all prepared, go and have fun!! Dont be afaird to try on different styles and fits. You never know what might suprise you!
